The 7th cultural and artistic week of Hay Mohammadi was launched on Tuesday in Casablanca, under the theme "Casablanca, space of culture and creativity".
Initiated by the Casablanca Carrière Centrale association in cooperation with the Hassan II Mosque Foundation, this event, which will continue until 4 April, aims to make known the culture and the artistic and literary potential that the economic capital abounds with, particularly in Hay Mohammadi.
Speaking on this occasion, the curator of the Hassan II Mosque Foundation, Bouchaïb Fekar, indicated that this cultural meeting aims to promote and highlight the artistic, scientific, and cultural heritage of the city.
This artistic week, which is being held at the media library of the Hassan II Mosque, also aims to present a series of themes and activities reflecting the creativity of Casablanca's elites, he noted, stressing that "beyond its economic and commercial role, the white city has become a major cultural and artistic hub".
For his part, Mustapha Mellouk, president of the Casablanca Carrières Centrales Association, insisted on the prime place that Hay Mohammadi occupies in terms of culture and creativity, specifying in this perspective that it is one of the rare neighbourhoods to enjoy a reputation built over the decades with great names in art, culture, and sport in the background.
He recalled that the first resistance movements against the French occupier took place in Hay Mohammadi with the uprising of the central quarries after the exile of the late H.M. Mohammed V.
According to the organisers, this seven-day event will be punctuated by exhibitions of books, visual arts, and calligraphy.
The programme also includes conferences and artistic and sporting activities.
