In tribute to the martyrs of Adir: meditation at the Chouhada cemetery

In commemoration of the 62nd anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, a ceremony took place on 20 August 2015 at the Chouhada cemetery of the Adir prison (El Haouzia commune, El Jadida province).

A large gathering, presided over by Mouâad El Jamaï, Governor of the province of El Jadida, marked this day of 20 August at the Chouhada cemetery in the Adir prison. It was a fitting occasion to bring back the glorious memory of the history of resistance and the struggle against foreign incursion in the north and south of the Kingdom. This epic demonstrated to the whole world the perfect symbiosis between the King and his people, who sacrificed themselves body and soul for the glory of Morocco.

After the moving flag-raising ceremony, saluted near the burial place of the martyrs of Adir by a detachment of Adir prison guards, the Governor of the province of El Jadida laid a wreath of flowers at the foot of the commemorative stele bearing the names of the martyrs of Adir. The Fatiha was read and prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of all the Chouhada of the Kingdom, led by the liberator of the Nation, the late H.M. Mohammed V, and the reunifier, the late H.M. Hassan II, as well as for the glory of the reign of H.M. King Mohammed VI. The audience also implored the Almighty to grant mercy to the late H.R.H. Princess Lalla, aunt of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and patience and comfort to H.M. the King, the Royal family, and the entire Moroccan people.

Speaking during this meeting, the regional delegate of the High Commission for Former Resistance Fighters and Former Members of the Liberation Army delivered an address in which he highlighted the profound significance of this event, which marked the modern history of the Kingdom, and highlighted the sacrifices made by the royal family and the people to free Morocco from the yoke of colonialism, while noting that our country, after the return of its liberator King and the royal family from exile, only left one battle to enter another. He noted that the date of 20 August 1953 will remain engraved in the memory of successive generations and in the register of our history, which is full of epics, stressing that this is a landmark event in the process of the national struggle for freedom and independence. This is why this glorious revolution continues with a battle for territorial unity and for modernising the country under the aegis of H.M. King Mohammed VI.

He also emphasised the importance of the historical process of the joint struggle of the Throne and the people for freedom, independence, and the defence of the sovereignty and sacred values of the Nation. Then, he recalled that the Moroccan martyrs wrote the history of nationalism with their faith, courage, and blood in the face of invaders so that the Moroccan people could regain their national dignity and recover their freedom. The regional delegate also took this opportunity to recall the achievements made for the benefit of former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army and their families in various fields (medical coverage, social housing, employment) and the efforts made to improve the living conditions of this social category, in accordance with the High Royal Orientations. He also expressed the pride of the family of the resistance and the Liberation Army in the progress and achievements made by the Kingdom under the enlightened leadership of H.M. King Mohammed VI.

The popular gathering ended with the reading of a message of fidelity and loyalty to the Sovereign addressed to the Royal Cabinet by the family of former resistance fighters and former members of the Liberation Army. The audience also offered prayers imploring God, the Almighty, to have in His Holy Mercy the souls of the Chouhada of independence, led by the father of the Nation, the late H.M. Mohammed V, and his companion in the struggle, the late H.M. Hassan II. They also offered prayers to preserve H.M. King Mohammed VI, to grant him assistance, glory, and a long life, and to bless him in the persons of H.R.H. Crown Prince Moulay Al Hassan, H.R.H. Prince Moulay Rachid, and all the members of the Illustrious Royal Family.

Note that in the evening, a large audience, composed of authorities, elected officials, politicians, trade unionists, notables, and all strata of the population, followed with fervour and pride the Royal Speech addressed to the nation by H.M. King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People.
