The National Short Film Prize, awarded by the 19th Moroccan Film Meeting in Fès, was won by the film “Their Night” by director Narrimane Yamna.
The jury of this festival, organised from 23 to 26 April under the theme “Moroccan cinema between the industrial and the cultural,” also awarded the Mediterranean Short Film Prize to the Slovenian film “Morning” by director Sonja Prosenc. The jury's special mention went to the child Mohamed Ait Hadou for his role in the film “10 dollars” by director Said Rabi'a, and the jury's special prize went to the film “Apartment 9” by director Mohamed Ismael. Organised by the “Medi film creation Maroc” Association in partnership with the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre and the urban commune of Fès, this major event of Moroccan cinema featured 23 films in competition for the Fès Prize for national short film and Mediterranean short films. In addition to the screening of films, the festival was marked by meetings with filmmakers and tribute sessions to personalities who have contributed to the enrichment of the national film library, notably filmmakers Abderrahim Meniari and Zeineb Smaiki. The critics and filmmakers present led a very rich debate on the theme: “Moroccan cinema between the industrial and the cultural,” an opportunity to question the future of the Moroccan film industry. Having become, over time, an interesting crossroads for cultural and artistic debates, the Moroccan Film Meeting of Fès aims, according to the organisers, to accompany the dynamic that the 7th art in Morocco is experiencing both in terms of production and participation in various national and international festivals.
