Essaouira in the Top 20 global destinations

Essaouira in the Top 20 global destinations

The city of Essaouira will be among the 20 most popular and sought-after tourist destinations in the world in 2015, indicates the British newspaper "Daily Telegraph".

In its section dedicated to travel and tourism trends published recently, the newspaper highlights the tourist assets of this peaceful, history-laden port city that fascinated global pop stars of the 60s like Jimmy Hendrix and Cat Stevens.

Located on the Atlantic coast, Essaouira, known for its trade winds and the Gnaoua Festival, will be served from 1 May 2015 by an air link provided by the low-cost carrier EasyJet departing from the city of Luton (about 50 km north-west of London), the British publication points out.

The establishment of this direct route between the cities of Essaouira and Luton will allow British tourists to travel easily to the City of Trade Winds without passing through the city of Marrakech, the newspaper specifies, indicating that the bay of Essaouira is a paradise for birdwatchers and windsurfing enthusiasts, thanks to the constant and often strong winds that blow on the city's coasts.

The charm of Essaouira lies notably in its attractive alleyways and its popular Souks which offer visitors a wide range of wooden handicrafts, pottery, leather, as well as authentic dishes of Moroccan cuisine, concludes the British newspaper.
