Essaouira broke its own records in August

Essaouira is running at full capacity. Indeed, during the past month of August, the city of the trade winds experienced a record influx of domestic tourists who represent nearly 40% of arrivals, and the destination recorded occupancy rates for classified accommodation establishments ranging from 90 to 100% in some cases. Thus, tourist arrivals multiplied the city's population by two, or even more, to the great delight of hoteliers, owners of guesthouses, or even restaurateurs.

In this regard, according to many professionals, Essaouira is increasingly positioning itself as a safe destination that prevails in the region, provided one knows how to capitalise on and promote the destination in an intelligent manner. Let us recall that during the first semester of 2014, Essaouira experienced an 8% increase in its overnight stays declared compared to the same period of the year 2013, which went from 211,156 to 228,028, and an 11% increase in its arrivals. Thus, most categories of tourist establishments in the city recorded increases in their overnight stays of 6% for 5-star, 9% for guesthouses, 6% for 4-star, and 15% for 2-star. Also, the evolution of overnight stays recorded during the first semester of the year 2014 at the level of the city of Essaouira is mainly explained by the increase in overnight stays achieved by the main source markets, notably the French market which experienced an increase of 4%, the English market of 13%, the German market recorded an increase of 12%, the Spanish market increased by 18%, and the Italian market by 16%.

Note in this sense that several elements make Essaouira a point of attraction for a good number of visitors, both domestic and foreign. It concerns, among other things, its temperate climate which is around 25 degrees, its Medina classified as a world heritage site which contains an architectural and urban heritage, and its enormous potential in terms of water sports or board sports, notably the sites of Sidi Kaouki and Moulay Bouzerktoune, renowned for the strength and regularity of the winds which are world-famous among surfers.
