Advocacy in El Jadida for the reduction of the digital divide

"African countries must put in place a relevant strategy in terms of ICT", this is what the participants in the 3rd edition of the 2015 Francophone CIO Summit affirmed in El Jadida.

African countries must put in place a relevant strategy in the field of new information and communication technologies (ICT), to meet the challenges of the expected socio-economic development, affirmed, recently in El Jadida, the participants in the 3rd edition of the 2015 Francophone CIO Summit (Chief Information Officers).

The participants, who spoke at the closing of this meeting, called on African countries to encourage investment in this technology, expand access to fast Internet services, and improve the training of human resources, with a view to strengthening their economic competitiveness.

They also pleaded for the reduction of the digital divide between rich and poor countries and for broad access to knowledge technology for the benefit of African populations.

Organised under the theme "Where technology meets business" by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the global ICT consulting services firm, this annual meeting saw the participation of more than 12 countries from the North Africa and Francophone Africa region, notably Senegal, Togo, Gabon, Cameroon, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Mali, Algeria, Benin, Morocco, Niger, and Tunisia.
