Timitar Festival: Agadir, a setting for world music

Timitar Festival: Agadir, a setting for world music

Agadir, the capital of Souss, is preparing to host the 11th edition of the Timitar Signs and Culture Festival, scheduled from 18 to 21 June 2014. Faithful to its spirit of celebrating Amazigh music as an expression of Moroccan cultural diversity, Timitar has become, over the editions, the unmissable meeting place for music and singing. This year, the organisers have pulled out all the stops to offer Moroccans a very eclectic array of big headliners. Hence a remarkable programme that honours all genres of music. As the organisers specify: "for eleven years, this festival has illustrated its desire to make culture accessible and free to the general public by offering a diversified programme reflecting the very spirit of the festival". In this sense, the menu for this edition brings together renowned national or international artists from different horizons. Starting with the unmissable Ahwach, which every evening will open the stage to exceptional talents who will perform on the three stages, namely Place Al Amal, the Verdure Theatre and Place Bijawane. The opening evening alone is a whole programme. We will discover the National Orchestra of Barbès, Rayss Outaleb Lamzoudi, Saâd Lemjered and the British electronic duo Addictive TV. During this evening, the Guinean singer Sia Tolno gave an appointment to aficionados for a unique moment of sharing. The opening programme will also include Lahoucine Ait Baamarne, Jennifer Grout and Nidal Ibourk with the Rachid Zeroual ensemble. Lovers of African music will be able to appreciate names like Alpha Blondy, the unmissable figure of African reggae but also of world reggae. Among the highlights of the festival, the concert of MC Connexion, the diva Karima Skali, Maya Kamaty, Juan Carmona, Babylone, Cambell Brothers, Imagination, the rapper Mouslim, Massine, Numedia, Fuz Anarouz, Rayssa Naima and Rayss Andam. In the end, the public will share moments of pleasure and joy with the sensual voice of Hani Chakir, Ahidouss Tirssaline, Rayss Taouss, Najat Aâtabou, Dj Click and Kalamour. It's simple, as every year, the Timitar Signs and Culture Festival, which has been a global event since its creation, is a celebration to pay tribute to all the music of the world. Agadir, for the duration of a festival, is its most beautiful setting.
