The metropolis has been experiencing an unprecedented sanitation campaign for a few days now. The Judicial Police Districts, in their entirety, are recording a particular effervescence. Raids are multiplying, as are arrests, all accompanied by a continuous communication campaign.
The challenge for the men in uniform is to reassure the Casablancais, following the creeping feeling of insecurity that has settled among the populations. At the same time, the "classic" operations of the PJ are still the rule.
In Sidi Bernoussi, the elements of the PJ are multiplying operations and every day brings its share of delinquents. Criminal acts include assaults, thefts, drug and psychotropic trafficking, etc. The latest operation to date is the arrest of a forger who specialised in printing 200 DH banknotes.
According to the elements of the Sidi Bernoussi District, the individual put out of harm's way had already been reported at the Anfa District level.
"In order to pass the counterfeit notes, he used the services of children from the neighbourhood whom he tasked with going to do shopping in the shops and grocery stores in the area to, thus, recover the change, in real banknotes this time."
The same source indicates having seized in the home of the person concerned a computer, a printer, and 4 ink cartridges. In total, he was able to reproduce 44 fake 200 DH notes. The individual used ordinary paper, which made the fake notes easily detectable. The police elements followed his tracks until they proceeded to his arrest with, in his possession, one of the fake notes. On another note, and at the level of the same district, an arrest of a hard drug trafficker was carried out. The police, who were monitoring his actions, arrested him in the act. A search carried out at his home led to the seizure of 18 grams of cocaine, in addition to 10 mobile phones, 7 watches, jewellery, as well as the sum of 5,440 DH and 50 and 10 euro notes.
A few days earlier, in the same District, two similar operations led to the arrest of psychotropic traffickers, a drug whose value has exploded in recent days, due to its scarcity, because of the various seizures made throughout the metropolis. The first operation led to the arrest of two dealers and the seizure of 46 psychotropic tablets (Rivotril 2 mg). Their supplier had been imprisoned previously at the Al Fida-Mers Sultan District level. As for the second operation, it led to the arrest of another dealer with, in his possession, 96 tablets of the same brand. Subject to medical prescription, this medication is generally indicated for the emergency treatment of epileptic states.
Its effects on a person not suffering from this ailment are devastating and lead to behavioural disorders, irritability, aggressiveness, agitation, confusion, and decreased vigilance. The consumption of these psychotropes leads in particular to deep physical and psychological dependence.
Presence and visibility: Restoring confidence and consolidating the feeling of security among the populations, such are the main lines of the new strategy of the metropolis police. In this sense, a larger deployment of police elements has been carried out, notably in areas of attraction and significant attendance (see lematin.ma). This is how the various police services are, today, in a logic of visibility through an apparent device, so that the citizen feels reassured by the presence of the police, thanks notably to the staff of the security services freshly arrived in the metropolis. Thus, the main lines of this device are summarised as "visibility" and "strong presence". The fight against assaults on public roads remains complex, however, because it is a moving criminality and its authors can act anywhere and at any time. The new strategy was also accompanied by an unprecedented media campaign, with the aim of reassuring citizens.
