Hay Mohammadi in Casablanca has just experienced another public domain evacuation operation. Indeed, the local authorities of the Ain Sebaa prefecture have cleared boulevards C, Chouhada and Ali Yata of the ferrachas and street vendors who were occupying them illegally and with total impunity. Similarly, the square bordering the Kissaria Hay Mohammadi has been completely cleared of all kinds of makeshift trade, following years of undue occupation of this public space.

In the presence of members of the law enforcement and auxiliary forces, this operation took place calmly and no incidents were recorded, as the ferrachas and other street vendors had been notified the day before by the governor himself, accompanied by authority agents. A long-awaited decision, therefore, which did not surprise those concerned, especially since an ultimatum had been issued to them before Eid Al Adha.

It should be recalled that the Carrières Centrales experienced, last June, an operation to demolish shacks as part of the "Cities without Slums" programme launched in 2008. This operation was marked by clashes between law enforcement and the inhabitants of the shanty town in question, who opposed the demolition of their makeshift homes.
