Rarely are learners, during their primary and secondary schooling, aware of money management in our financial institutions, and therefore of the functioning and role of these institutions in the national economy. It is, for them, an entirely esoteric field. At best, the most widespread notion of a bank is that it embodies, in their vision, monetary wealth and those who go there... It is the rich who handle bundles of cash... Clichés to which the lack of correct information gives full latitude for the spread of such an erroneous perception among students. And it is to bridge this lack of knowledge and to instil in learners the rudimentary notions of finance that the Tiznit delegation of the Ministry of National Education, like all schools in the Kingdom, celebrated the "Financial Day" for students on March 16. A day instituted for the first time by the Ministry of Education in partnership with Bank Al-Maghrib and in collaboration, among others, with the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Thus, during a week, from March 16 to 22, all schools in the province worked on organising a vast awareness and information campaign for students on this subject. Visits were carried out for groups of learners to the banks in their cities to benefit from explanations from officials regarding the roles of these institutions in terms of investment and deposit operations, and services related to protecting money securely; and above all, the function of transforming deposits into loans for the purpose of economic efficiency by acting as an intermediary between economic agents with a surplus of liquidity and those who suffer from a shortage.
The students thus inquired about the vital role of banks in creating wealth-generating investments by mobilising the finances necessary for the realisation of projects.
Many middle school students in the various regions of Tiznit and Tafraout have already made several trips to local banking institutions and have been informed about the administrative procedures and the nature of forms related to the operations and services usually offered by banks. At the Al Massira, Soulayman Arrasmouki, and Hassan II qualifying high schools in Tiznit, banking executives from the city gave several presentations to nearly 120 students on currency manufacturing and monitoring and control mechanisms.
