The quantities of coastal and artisanal fishing products landed at the port of Tan-Tan reached 39,739 tonnes at the end of May, a sharp increase of 180% compared to the same period last year, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).
The market value of these products increased by 63%, reaching more than 485.40 million dirhams (MDH), compared to more than 298.43 MDH in the same period in 2024, specifies the ONP in its latest statistics on coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco.
As for the quantities of pelagic fish landed in this port, they saw a record increase of 334% during the first five months of the year, reaching 30,245 tonnes for a value of more than 116.36 MDH (+203%), the same source adds.
Furthermore, white fish catches recorded an increase of 30% at the end of last May, totaling 6,283 tonnes for a value of 137.07 MDH, compared to 4,849 tonnes, or 100.34 MDH during the same period in 2024, reports the MAP.
Regarding cephalopods, the quantities landed increased by 38%, reaching 3,116 tonnes for a value of 225.09 MDH (+45%), while the quantities of crustaceans landed stood at 94 tonnes, a decline of 16% with a market value of 6.86 MDH (-41%).
At the national level, the quantities of coastal and artisanal fishing products landed during this period in the various ports of the Kingdom reached 321,520 tonnes, marking a decline of 18% compared to the first five months of last year.
In terms of market value, these quantities nevertheless recorded a slight increase of 1%, with approximately 4.42 billion dirhams.
