The filling rate of the Al Massira dam reached 98.85% by mid-May, with reserves estimated at 2.627 billion m3, according to officials at the facility.
The significant water resources available "will allow for the satisfaction of drinking water demand, as well as covering irrigation needs and increasing the share of hydroelectric energy," it is noted.
The latest rainfall in the country provided a significant water inflow that exceeded the dam's storage capacity, particularly in February and March, the same sources noted with satisfaction. Located in the centre of the country, not far from Settat on the Oum Errabiaa river, the Al Massira dam is considered the second-largest artificial reservoir in Morocco, with a storage capacity estimated at 2.65 billion m3.
