The regional coordination of the Social Development Agency of Settat organised a round table on Thursday, on the occasion of the national campaign to combat violence against women, under the theme "So that they suffer no more, let this violence cease".
During this round table, which was attended by local civil society actors working in the field of combating violence against women, representatives of local authorities, as well as researchers, the representative of the High Commission for Planning presented the main outlines of the national survey on the Prevalence of Violence Against Women in Morocco, published recently.
According to the results of this survey, out of a population of 9.5 million women aged 18 to 64, nearly 6 million have suffered violence, including 3.8 million in urban areas and 2.2 million in rural areas.
It is in public places that this violence is most widespread. With a prevalence rate of 9.7%, nearly one million women are victims, or 2 out of 3 women physically assaulted. The prevalence rate in these places is 5 times higher in urban areas than in rural areas (14.2% against 3.1%).
The participants also discussed the contributions of the new constitution regarding equality between women and men and called for strengthening actions to combat the various forms of violence against women.
