ONP: 14% drop in fishing landings at the port of Safi

The National Office of Fisheries (ONP) has indicated that the quantities of coastal and artisanal fishing products landed at the port of Safi saw a 14% decrease in 2024.

In its recent report on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco, the ONP specifies that the quantities landed over the past year amounted to 51,113 tonnes (T), compared to 59,315 T in 2023.

The market value of these catches, for its part, increased by 4% to 313.13 million dirhams (MDH), compared to 300.09 million dirhams (MDH) a year earlier.

By species, the quantities of pelagic fish landed in this port fell by 13% last year, totalling 47,827 tonnes with an estimated value of 154.96 MDH, compared to 163.22 MDH / 54,868 T in 2023.

Furthermore, landings of white fish recorded a 17% drop, totalling 1,078 tonnes with a value of 57.40 MDH, compared to 1,304 T (60.65 MDH).

Regarding cephalopods, the quantities landed saw a 44% increase, totalling 1,173 T with revenues estimated at 91.32 MDH (+56%).

The quantities of crustaceans landed recorded a 48% decline, totalling 90 T with revenues of approximately 6.60 MDH (-42%).

At the national level, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 1,336,058 T in 2024, a 1% decrease compared to 2023. In value, these landings recorded a 6% increase to over 10.54 billion dirhams.
