Rabat – A scientific meeting was organised on Saturday in Rabat in tribute to the contributions of the Saudi thinker Abdelaziz Ben Othman Touijri, former Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in the fields of thought, education, and culture.
Organised by the Moroccan Centre for Pedagogical Studies and Research in partnership with the International Institute of Islamic Thought, this meeting was held under the theme: “The civilisational vision of the intellectual project of Abdelaziz Ben Othman Touijri”.
The proceedings of this meeting were divided into two sessions, the first having examined the civilisational vision of Mr. Touijri's thought, while the second featured readings of the thinker's works.
In a statement to the press, the President of the Moroccan Centre for Pedagogical Studies and Research, Khalid Samadi, indicated that this scientific meeting is part of an annual tradition that welcomes leading intellectual figures, with the aim of creating bridges with master's and doctoral students, in order to help them with their dissertations and theses.
He noted, in this sense, that the tribute paid to Mr. Touijri is a recognition of the scientific and institutional experience accumulated by the thinker, as well as the richness of his civilisational project which touches on issues of cultural dialogue and development strategies of the Islamic world.
For his part, Mr. Touijri said he was proud to receive this tribute which celebrates thought and civilisational dialogue, recalling that throughout his professional career, he has been committed to engaging in intellectual and cultural issues, placing Islamic values and intercultural communication at the centre of his concerns.
The thinker, who received the “Shield of Intellectual Excellence” on this occasion, emphasised the importance of thought in civilisational renaissance, believing that development cannot be achieved without solid cultural and intellectual foundations.
Abdelaziz Ben Othman Touijri, who served as Director General of ICESCO between 1991 and 2019, has published about fifty books in the fields of thought, literature, and culture.
Created in 2000 in Tetouan, the Moroccan Centre for Pedagogical Studies and Research works in partnership with national and international institutions to support and improve the quality of education and promote critical thinking.
