A panel discussion themed: "The Role of Youth in the Transition to a Smart and Resilient Water Sector Future" will be co-organised on Friday in Rabat by the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
Initiated on the occasion of World Water Day, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German Development Cooperation implemented by GIZ, the 4C Maroc Centre, and the Belgian Embassy in Rabat, this event will bring together senior Moroccan officials, national and international partners, experts, academic institutions, students, researchers, and civil society actors, according to a joint press release from the organisers.
This meeting primarily aims to communicate on the challenges of water management in the context of climate change and to inspire public action and engagement to promote sustainable initiatives and solutions that contribute to strengthening the resilience of the water sector and the population to the impacts of climate change, with a particular focus on young people.
According to the organisers, the event aims to highlight the contribution of youth to this resilience by leveraging innovation, creativity, and new technologies.
"Our young people, who are increasingly connected and represent an inexhaustible source of creativity and new ideas, can be vectors of positive change for innovation in this vital sector," the press release states.
To this end, a national competition targeting students and young researchers with ideas has been organised by the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
Furthermore, an award ceremony will be held during this event to recognise students and young researchers who have presented the best innovative ideas or projects and/or who use new technologies for the resilience of the water sector.
It should be recalled that Morocco, like many countries, particularly those in the Mediterranean region, is severely affected by the impacts of climate change, which exacerbate the vulnerability of the country's water resources year after year and affect their availability.
Faced with this situation, the Kingdom is committed to promoting innovative strategies and solutions and encouraging the use of innovation and new technologies to ensure its water and food security while ensuring a transition towards a smart and resilient future for the water sector.
