The Mayor of Rabat, Fatiha El Moudni, has ordered Farouk Mehdaoui, a member of the communal council representing the Federation of the Democratic Left (FGD), to provide her with the documents supporting his statements made during the extraordinary session of the Rabat Commune Council, held last Thursday, December 12. Mehdaoui had then accused members of the examination commission of having received a bribe of seven million centimes to favour the success of a candidate in the professional competence examinations organized this year.
In correspondence consulted by Hespress FR, the mayor recalled that Mehdaoui had publicly claimed to possess damning evidence regarding these accusations. « On this basis, and within the framework of legal requirements and transparency, I ask you to please communicate to me, as soon as possible, the documents and evidence on which you rely, in order to allow me to take the necessary legal measures regarding these actions », specified El Moudni in her letter.
The Mayor of Rabat reaffirmed, in this same document, « our total commitment to the principle of equality before the law », emphasizing that no tolerance would be granted to such «transgressions » if their veracity were to be established.
The accusations made by Farouk Mehdaoui are part of a series of revelations made by the councillors of the Federation of the Democratic Left within the Rabat Communal Council. Last week, they denounced major dysfunctions in the management of professional competence examinations intended for commune officials. They accused members of the council of « brokerage », « corruption » and «blackmail » towards candidates, going so far as to demand sums reaching 70,000 dirhams (7 million centimes).
Farouk Mehdaoui provided details on these accusations, explaining that « recently, two professional competence examinations were organized for the commune's officials». This type of examination, he added, « represents an opportunity for officials to demonstrate their skills and benefit from their right to promotion ».
During his intervention during the extraordinary session, Mehdaoui directly accused «several members of the council of monetizing these examinations ». «Some brokers demand 70,000 dirhams to intercede in favour of a candidate wishing to move from scale 10 to scale 11 », he affirmed in this sense.
Addressing the president of the council, Fatiha El Moudni, he added: « We have the names of the officials involved in these brokerage practices and the sums received for this purpose », calling for immediate intervention to rectify the situation before the announcement of the examination results.
Mehdaoui also threatened to take firmer measures if no action was taken. « If no action is taken, we will take the measures authorized by law to submit this file to public opinion and bring it before the courts », he maintained.
