The book is a collection of nine accounts by journalists from various national media outlets, recounting their experiences during the coverage of the repercussions of the earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region in September 2023.
Published by Agora editions, this 159-page book, of medium format, aims to document journalistic experiences in the field during times of disaster. It also seeks to reflect on the very essence of journalism and its role in times of crisis.
According to its authors, the work highlights the importance of developing an academic model that combines theory and practice, while reconciling the ethical and operational requirements of the profession, with the aim of developing a practical guide for field journalism, beyond traditional formats.
This book presents itself as a "living testimony blending professional experience and human dimensions", offering a different perspective from journalists, perceived as individuals deeply connected to the realities they report, with a sincere commitment to reporting facts to a public seeking reliable information.
In an address on this occasion, journalist Oussama Bajji explained that this book constitutes a documentation of the experiences lived by several journalists in their coverage of the Al Haouz earthquake. It adopts a narrative genre that integrates a sociological, anthropological, professional, and ethical approach.
These testimonies, he said, reveal the need to strengthen training in media coverage of crises and natural disasters, by adopting a professional and ethical approach.
Other speakers who contributed to this work also highlighted the importance of training media professionals in crisis management through continuous training workshops, in order to produce quality journalistic content.
They also called on media institutions to strengthen the tools and resources made available to journalists in times of crisis, in order to take into account the necessary safety measures in these contexts.
This meeting, which brought together journalists and civil society actors, was also an opportunity to invite press professionals to document their experiences in works that enrich the national heritage and constitute useful resources for researchers and the general public.
