In 1967, the Rabat municipality, chaired by the late Maati Bouabid and the then President of the House of Councillors, was one of the founders of the Arab Towns Organization, based in the Kuwaiti capital. Today, it is one of the most prominent and active regional institutions in the Arab world, and its goals include preserving the Arab identity of cities and their heritage, developing their municipalities, etc.
