The measures of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra DRA for the 2024-2025 agricultural season

Specific actions in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region have been undertaken aimed at supporting farmers in the face of climate and economic challenges, diversifying crops, and ensuring food security. Thus, seed and fertiliser subsidies are granted by the State in order to support the region's sectors, notably cereals and legumes with a programme of 610,000 hectares. In addition to financial aid, technical training and support sessions have been scheduled for farmers.



The DRA has developed measures adapted to each sector. For selected seeds, approximately 200,000 quintals of certified autumn cereal seeds will be available at incentive prices, via 45 sales centres.

Another particularity, this year the support extends to new species of cereals, legumes, and fodder to encourage crop rotation. Regarding market gardening crops, the DRA has dedicated an area of 55,000 hectares spread over the four seasons. This programme consists of subsidising the acquisition of seeds and seedlings of round tomatoes, onions, and potatoes.

Furthermore, the Regional Directorate of Agriculture plans to plant 19,600 hectares in sugar crops. This is thanks to the improvement of the water situation in the Gharb perimeter and the renewal of producer prices of 80 DH/tonne (t) for sugar beet and 70 DH/t for sugar cane. Red meat: livestock safeguard measures In order to give new impetus to the red meat sector, the DRA will continue to implement safeguard measures for livestock. Thus, 350,000 quintals of barley, programmed as part of the third tranche, are currently being distributed at 14 relay centres, spread across the various provinces of the region. The programme also includes the creation and equipment of water points and the acquisition of tankers for watering livestock.

To this end, and with a view to replenishing livestock numbers and stabilising red meat prices on the market, measures have been taken to encourage the import of fattening calves and sheep. Provincial committees are carrying out visits to quarantine stations and fattening units to encourage importers and fatteners to accelerate slaughtering, in order to ensure a sufficient supply of red meat, beef, and lamb to the markets.

Furthermore, it is pointed out by the DRA, vaccination campaigns for cattle against foot-and-mouth disease and for sheep and goats against sheep pox and peste des petits ruminants (PPR) have been programmed. The programme also includes a campaign to treat hives against varroosis, a devastating parasitic disease.

"Last but not least", an area of approximately 245,000 hectares at the regional level will be covered by multi-risk climate agricultural insurance intended for cereals, legumes, and oilseed crops. It offers financial protection to farmers and secures their income, thereby contributing to the encouragement of agricultural investments.
