Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr: when luxury hospitality resurrects history

The Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr opens a new chapter by bringing back to life this historic site anchored in the memory of the Rbatis. The building occupied by the hotel once bore the name Kasr Al Bahr, which was none other than the summer residence of Sultan Moulay Slimane in the 18th century.



In 1912, the site was converted into a hospital, later bearing the name Marie Feuillet, in tribute to a French Red Cross nurse with exemplary dedication. A heroic figure, she marked the history of Moroccan medicine by making this hospital a model of care, where medical excellence and humanism coexisted. Affectionately nicknamed “Marifilly” by the regulars, the establishment was a pillar of the health system at the time, as well as a school for many interns, before closing its doors in 1999, after nearly a century of activity.

It is in this place steeped in history that the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr comes to embody luxury and Moroccan hospitality. The renovation took up the challenge of preserving the soul of the place by brilliantly maintaining the Neo-Moorish style while integrating contemporary touches. Thus, during the rehabilitation of the premises, some buildings were demolished and then rebuilt identically, while three others were restored while preserving period elements. “At Four Seasons, we are always inspired by the destination that surrounds us to create new experiences for our guests, especially when we have the opportunity to revive the walls of a building with such history,” said Rainer Stampfer, General Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr. Between luxury and tradition, the metamorphosis of the place was entrusted to the architectural firm Roger Nazarian and Associates, which had Moroccan heritage as a common thread, thus endowing each living space with traditional touches, including the iconic Zellige tiles, coloured glass windows and worked copper accessories. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr has 160 rooms, 40 suites, including 10 signature suites, notably the Turquoise Ocean View suite with its generous spaces, and the Moulay Slimane presidential suite, composed of three rooms, embodying the quintessence of luxury. Like a hidden treasure, the Riad of the Sultan, which was the residence of Moulay Slimane, offers a unique experience suspended in time. This 950m² jewel houses a large terrace, a gym with a hammam and an infinity pool on the roof with a view of the ocean. A business and leisure destination After notable experiences across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Executive Chef Sebastiano Spriveri takes the reins of the tables at the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr. The La Flamme restaurant offers fusion gastronomy with oven-cooked specialities as well as a variety of Moroccan dishes. The Brasserie Marie, with its Parisian bistro feel, honours French cuisine, while the Noora Lobby Lounge offers revisited pastries, created by Executive Pastry Chef Gregory Chrismant. Two other tables will soon enrich the gastronomic offer: the Mediterranean restaurant Verdello and an establishment dedicated to Asian flavours.

The journey of the senses continues at the hotel's spa. This temple of well-being with a view of the ocean houses 10 treatment rooms, a traditional Moroccan hammam, a beauty salon, and an indoor pool lit by a natural skylight. Enjoying a strategic location, the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr is also positioned as a MICE destination. The hotel has dedicated 2,700 m² of modular and fully equipped spaces for events. The Royal Hall, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people, the junior ballroom and the meeting rooms offer flexibility for organising business meetings, seminars or bespoke private events. In addition, the Warcha space, dedicated to craftsmanship and Moroccan creation, will soon open its doors to highlight the talent of local artists.

A holistic vision of customer needs is one of the leitmotifs of this opening: “The Four Seasons group now has three hotels in Morocco. The one in Casablanca is business-oriented, the one in Marrakech is for leisure, and the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr is positioned between the two. We want to offer a hybrid experience: during the week, an urban and business hotel, and on weekends, a leisure destination for families or getaways,” Rainer Stampfer told “Le Matin”. He also highlighted the ambition to organise travelling stays across Morocco, linking Casablanca, Marrakech and Rabat to help people discover the richness of the Kingdom.
