The Banque Populaire Gallery unveils the residency exit works of eight young artists it has accompanied around the theme "The World of Tomorrow". An exhibition to discover until February 28, 2025.
“Value does not wait for the number of years”. These verses by Corneille, at the entrance of the Banque Populaire Gallery, set the tone for the exhibition “When art invites itself into residency”, which gives pride of place to emerging contemporary creation. Eight young graduates from the Institute of Fine Arts of Tétouan and the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Casablanca thus had the opportunity to give free rein to their respective practices, during the 3rd edition of the summer artistic residency, organized by the Banque Populaire Foundation.
Invited to produce around the theme The World of Tomorrow, the young artists delivered original works, combining social reflection, exploration of forms and materials, while offering aesthetic and conceptual responses to contemporary concerns. Imbued with traditional arts, Zouheir Chihad's resin works reinvent a heritage aspect by reappropriating the art of zellige, while Imane Laaribi offers a singular and up-to-date reading of the neo-figurative movement. Not far from her graceless, distorted, and disappointed “Cinderella” unable to put on her glass slipper, stands, elegant and imbued with realism, the portrait in caftan of Fatima Ezzahra Khilad. On her oils, the young woman also pays a singular tribute to the pottery of Safi. The white and blue pots, emblematic of the seaside city, inhabit her canvases and create strange situations…
The deformed bodies and faces, represented on the canvases of Soufiane Nait Addi, amplify this sensation of strangeness. The artist invites sadness into the gazes of his creations and arouses trouble in the visitor. Despite the diversity of techniques and the plurality of styles, this exhibition – imagined as a springboard for young creation – shows great coherence. Each in their own way, the artists evoke stories about identity, society, and the future… without “waiting for the number of years” to deliver their message.
