The animal collection of the Rabat National Zoological Garden (JZN) has been enriched by 19 new births (5 lion cubs, 2 addax, 4 dorcas gazelles, 6 lechwe waterbucks, 1 scimitar-horned oryx and 1 black-headed parrot).
The newborns have benefited from the necessary medical monitoring and a period of veterinary surveillance which took place under the best conditions to allow them to take their first steps in an environment that simulates their original habitat and preserves their natural behaviour, indicates a statement from the Rabat National Zoological Garden on Tuesday.
The JZN thus contributes to the conservation of wild species and more particularly species extinct in the natural environment such as lions or those threatened with extinction such as Sahelo-Saharan antelopes.
In this capacity, the JZN participates in programmes to strengthen wild fauna populations through scientific research, technical supervision, monitoring of these species and the promotion of public awareness actions for the preservation of biodiversity.
These actions are carried out in close collaboration with national institutions such as the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification, or international ones, notably associations of zoos and aquariums and international zoos.
