Talha Jibril releases a second edition of “Those First Days in Rabat”

The second edition of the book ''Those First Days in Rabat'' by the Sudanese writer and journalist Talha Jibril has just been published.

In this 144-page book, the writer nostalgically recalls the beginnings of a journey full of adventures and twists and turns that he took from Khartoum to Rabat while he was still a student. This adventure, which was supposed to be a limited transit, eventually led Talha Jibril to settle permanently in Morocco four decades ago.

The story begins with the landing of a plane on the runway at Casablanca airport. On board, a group of students wishing to pursue their studies in Moroccan universities. Talha Jibril, the ''foreign'' student, had to face a new reality; he certainly spoke Arabic, but he did not understand a word of the Moroccan dialect. However, it would not be long before he earned his first salary at the newspaper ''Al Mitaq'', amounting to 1,000 dirhams, leading him to strut through the streets of Rabat like a ''Sudanese Onassis'', before finding a more stable path thanks to the late Abdeljabbar Shimi, who invited him to join the daily newspaper ''Al Alam''.

He then discovered a society and a space he knew nothing about, but he also discovered the joy of finally entering the working world. The writer recalls these past events clearly and with a great sense of detail, with days sometimes filled with joy, sometimes tainted by sorrow linked to a difficult financial and social situation, a sorrow that requires unwavering patience and a will that does not falter. Thanks to this, Talha Jibril would finally succeed in asserting himself and climbing the ladder until reaching social stability and professional comfort.

Talha Jibril was born in the late fifties in the Mori region (in northern Sudan).
