After a 55-minute flight, a traditional water cannon salute was performed upon landing in the capital of the Oriental region, highlighting the importance of this new link for travellers and economic stakeholders in both regions.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Oujda-Angads airport, was marked by the presence of Khatib El Hebil, Wali of the Oriental region, Mohamed Bouarourou, President of the Oriental Regional Council, and Leila Mechbal, General Manager of Air Arabia Maroc.
This new line opens up new opportunities for business travellers and tourists, while strengthening economic and cultural ties between these two cities.
In detail, this new route will be operated three times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, thus offering flexibility for travellers wishing to travel between these two cities.
On this occasion, Mohamed Bouarourou indicated that: "These two new lines, which result from two partnership agreements signed between the 'Air Arabia – Maroc' council and the State of the Eastern region, aim to strengthen the air connectivity of Oujda Angad and Nador Laroui with Rabat-Salé airport," adding that: "These links will allow for the promotion of the economy and tourism of the region, by strengthening its attractiveness, and thus contributing to the achievement of the socio-economic development of these parts of the Kingdom."
In the same context, Youssef Zaki, President of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of the Oriental region, explained, for his part: "We are facing a major challenge, which is to move this seaside resort from seasonality towards sustainability."
He added: "This new air route makes it easier to access from and to these two cities. But it is also about connecting Berkane, Saïdia, and Nador."
