The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) reacts to dispel the unfounded rumours circulating about pine seedlings in Nador, highlighted by a wave of announcements in various media.
Faced with a wave of misleading allegations that have recently surfaced on social media and in some media outlets, the ANEF, wrongly accused of having decided to destroy 940,000 pine seedlings in a forest nursery in Nador, has sought to clarify the situation.
In a press release, the ANEF affirmed that no decision to destroy forest seedlings had been taken. Describing these claims as "completely baseless", the agency stressed that these rumours run counter to the reforestation and environmental preservation ambitions it promotes. In reality, these 940,000 pine seedlings are a key element of the ongoing reforestation programme, aimed at strengthening the national forest cover.
These seedlings are at the crossroads of paths leading to ambitious reforestation initiatives within the region. As part of five work contracts, the ANEF is preparing to plant nearly 1,000 hectares of forests in the perimeters of Zaou (Nador) and Debdou (Taourirt). These seedlings, carefully produced and maintained, are waiting to be transferred to the planting sites during this optimal period for their planting.
In the event of a surplus after the necessary allocation to these essential programmes, the ANEF specified that these would be managed in accordance with the regulations in force. Surplus seedlings could thus be used to support local environmental initiatives, via in-kind subsidies intended for institutions, associations, and cooperatives.
At the same time, the ANEF recalled its unwavering commitment to the preservation and expansion of the Moroccan forest cover, in accordance with the "Forests of Morocco 2020-2030" strategy. This aims to fight against desertification and climate change, while strengthening the natural spaces of the Kingdom.
