The Joudour Association for the development of Moulay Idriss and the Zerhoun region is organising the second symposium of the city of Moulay Idriss on 22 and 23 October 2016. "Sufism and the challenges of local development" is the theme of this edition, which aims to highlight the tangible and intangible heritage of the region (natural, historical, cultural, and spiritual). "The valorisation of intangible heritage was among the recommendations that emerged from the first symposium held on 24 and 25 October of last year. This is how our choice regarding the theme of this edition was guided," the organisers indicate in a press release.
This second version will be punctuated by meetings-debates, exchanges of reflections, and experiences around the said theme. The organisers also indicate that the event will see the organisation of medical and humanitarian caravans in the region, socio-educational actions, and cleaning and beautification of the city. Sports competitions and themed artistic evenings are also on the programme, as well as the open-air screening, during the symposium, of a report on the riches and potential that the region abounds with.
"In addition to the promotion of the region and the development of local tourism under its various facets, including religious and ecotourism, the association's objective is to arouse awareness on the part of the indigenous people regarding the potential and assets of the Zerhoun massif, in order to ensure the sustainability of such cultural and religious activities which constitute, undoubtedly, an unavoidable means of paving a way for it towards a notable insertion into the development dynamics of the region," concludes the press release.
