This event, organised on the initiative of the (Chamat Theatre Troupe) with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication-Culture Sector, in partnership with the Council of the Fez-Meknes Region, the Meknes Commune, and the Meknes Provincial Council, under the theme: "Meknes, a stage for the world's theatres", featured a number of theatrical performances from Morocco and abroad, as well as the scheduling of theatre workshops and artistic meetings, supervised by a group of artists and playwrights.
The festival, which seeks to become a platform open to international theatrical experiences where the city of Meknes is present with its rich history and heritage as a bridge for dialogue, meeting, and theatrical communication, was distinguished by the participation of artists from Morocco, Burkina Faso, France, Spain, Tunisia, Syria, and Iraq, in addition to celebrating theatrical artists from Morocco and abroad.
The writer, director, and artistic director of the Meknes Theatre Festival, Bousselham Daif, stated in a declaration to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP) agency that the residents of the Ismaili capital lived through very strong moments over five days that included various theatrical performances, noting that the festival's outcome was positive.
He added that the festival's diverse activities, from theatrical performances to open meetings with artists from Morocco and abroad, strengthened, on the one hand, the communication of theatre professionals with the audience that loves the "father of arts", and on the other hand, enabled the creation of a bridge of communication between the theatre professionals themselves.
For his part, the French-Syrian writer, director, and theatre actor, Fidaa Mhaissen, confirmed in a similar statement that festivals constitute an opportunity to meet artists, exchange experiences and expertise, and share what is new in the artistic scene, adding that the event was a rich experience full of high positive energy.
In turn, the Iraqi writer and director, Kadhim Nassar, pointed out that the event hosted by the historic city of Meknes confirms the importance of theatre and culture and their role in strengthening bridges of communication and openness to others.
It is noteworthy that the festival, at its opening ceremony, honoured a group of actors and theatre directors from the Ismaili capital, namely actor and director Driss Roukhe, actress Wassila Sabhi, and actor Abdelhak Belmjahed.
