The ARM museum, which aims primarily to safeguard military heritage and raise awareness of the national archaeological and historical heritage, has a collection of more than 1,000 varied museum pieces.
On High Instructions from H.M. King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), General of the Army Corps Bouchaib Arroub, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, presided over the opening ceremony of the Royal Military Academy (ARM) museum in Meknes on Friday.
During this ceremony, which is part of the graduation of two new classes of student officers of the ARM, namely the 89th class of student officers and the 8th class of the special cycle for the 2014-2015 year, the president of the Moroccan Commission for Military History (CMHM), General Omar El Ouadoudi, wished to specify that the creation of this museum represents a radiance for the Academy and a platform for visitors who want to discover the key stages of the Royal Army.
This museum, he continued, is part of numerous projects carried out by the CMHM, which was created on High Instructions of the late H.M. Hassan II on 22 October 1996, and instituted by the Dahir promulgated on 3 May 2000 by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
He specified that the ARM museum in Meknes reaffirms the High Solicitude and deep interest that the Sovereign grants to military history, which constitutes an important part of the Kingdom's history.
For Mr. El Ouadoudi, the ARM museum, which aims primarily to safeguard military heritage and raise awareness of the national archaeological and historical heritage, has a collection of more than 1,000 varied museum pieces.
He added that the collection within the museum, which is both rich and varied, represents as a whole a chronological range retracing, through themes, the era of Sultan Moulay Ismail as well as the main military-related achievements conceived between 1918 and 1956.
The museum also includes certain decisive historical landmarks which are illustrated through a very selective iconography retracing, among other things, some historical events as well as the role of the Royal Military Academy since its creation.
The ceremony took place in the presence of, among others, Mr. Mohamed Kadiri, Wali of the Meknes-Tafilalet region, Governor of the Meknes prefecture, and a number of senior officers and non-commissioned officers, as well as other civilian and military personalities.
