Marrakech: Rachidi learns about local social services provided to the elderly
The Secretary of State in charge of Social Inclusion, Abdeljebbar Rachidi, carried out a field visit on Wednesday in Marrakech to the care centre for the elderly located in the M’hamid district, as part of the monitoring of social structures and the evaluation of services offered to vulnerable categories, particularly seniors.

Inaugurated on 5 October 2022, this 400 m2 space, whose management is entrusted to the Entraide Nationale, in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the Al-Ghad Women's Association, aims to be a true local model for social proximity services.

During this visit, Mr. Rachidi and the accompanying delegation learned about the various components of this space and its daily programmes, which include literacy workshops, religious guidance, memorisation of the Holy Quran, computer initiation, as well as sports sessions and recreational activities.

He also inquired about the various facilities of the establishment, spread over two floors and including administrative, reception, awareness, leisure, and primary care rooms, a computer room and a gym, in addition to a cloakroom and sanitary facilities.

In a statement to MAP on this occasion, Mr. Rachidi affirmed that day-care centres constitute a significant step forward in the provision of social services, in that they allow the elderly to maintain an active social and intellectual life in a setting that respects their dignity and promotes their autonomy.

In this vein, he emphasised the importance of strengthening this type of centre and supporting their human and technical resources, adding that "these structures illustrate the government's orientation towards a new approach to managing social services, based on inclusion and empowerment rather than on assistance and accommodation".

This modern social structure currently benefits 132 elderly people, including 108 women and 24 men, supervised by a team of nine staff members, including three executives from the Entraide Nationale and six from the Al-Ghad Women's Association.

Approached by MAP, several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the existence of such spaces that work to preserve their dignity and promote their social inclusion.

"My loneliness has disappeared, my routine has been filled with vitality. I participate in activities, I learn new things, and above all, I have found companions of my age," confided Khadija, a beneficiary of a literacy workshop, who said she was grateful for the positive change in her daily life since joining the centre.
