The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Department of Culture) is organising, from 15 to 19 June in Marrakech, the 5th edition of the National Amateur Theatre Festival.

This edition, placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is part of the artistic continuity of the previous brilliant editions of this festival, which has always constituted a pool of artistic talent and a space for scenic creation rich in aesthetic and creative dimensions, indicates the Regional Directorate of Culture of Marrakech-Safi in a press release, noting that this annual artistic event aims to promote amateur theatrical production and preserve Moroccan theatrical memory.

Eight troupes representing different regions of the Kingdom will participate in the official competition of this edition, with several prizes at stake, namely best actress, best actor, best scenography, best dramatic writing, best direction, and best theatrical performance.

The troupes in question are "Al Atta'a for Theatre and Cinema" - El Kelaâ des Sraghna, "Suwar for Culture and Art" from Chichaoua, "Tadla Fan" - Kasba Tadla, "Alwan for Artistic Creativity" - Oulad Teima, "Eklil for Theatre and Performing Arts" - Benslimane, "Adonism for Theatre" - Salé, "Live Art for Theatre" - Kariat Ba Mohamed, and "The Palace Stage for Theatre and Cultures" - Ksar El Kebir.

The selection jury for this edition brings together artistic and professional skills that have accumulated solid experience in the theatrical field, with Hicham Abkari, Director of Arts at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, as president, alongside members Tawfiq Hamani, Fadila Benmoussa, Yassine Zaoui, and Abdellatif Firdaous.

As part of its pedagogical approach, the festival also offers a masterclass for the participating troupes on the theme "Theatrical practice between amateurism and professionalism", led by artists Saadia Ladib and Farid Regragui, and moderated by artist Hassan Hamouch.

This 5th edition will also be marked by a tribute paid to several iconic figures of Moroccan theatre, in recognition of their contribution to national artistic and academic influence.

Farid Regragui, Mustapha Khalili, Maryam Siddiqi, and theatre researcher Mohamed Zouhir will thus be honoured.
