African youth play a central role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), stated the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed, on Sunday in Marrakech during the opening ceremony of the "Ibrahim Governance Weekend" (IGW 2025) Forum.
Highlighting the urgency of moving beyond traditional visions that relegate young people to a passive role, Ms. Mohammed advocated for their recognition as key actors, leaders, innovators, and full partners in the continent's transformation.
"The current year constitutes a decisive turning point for the 2030 Agenda," she declared, calling on African institutions to accelerate reforms over the next five years to meet international commitments.
