The proceedings of the 3rd edition of the Arab-African Pedagogical Congress on Smart Cities began on Tuesday in Marrakech, under the theme "Arab-African visions and strategies for smart, sustainable and safe regions".
Organised by the design and engineering firm "Innovatel Engineering", in partnership with the Marrakech Communal Council, and in coordination with the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Prefectural and Provincial Councils (AMPCPP), the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Communal Councils (AMPCC), United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), as well as the Arab Smart Cities Forum (Jordan), this congress aims to create synergies between design offices, engineers, architects, urban planners, solution developers and political decision-makers, with a view to stimulating major projects in Morocco, particularly in the perspective of the 2030 World Cup.
This meeting also constitutes a unique opportunity to bring together the main Arab and African urban actors specialising in smart and sustainable urban technologies, to present their technological innovations intended for territories and smart cities.
Speaking on this occasion, Lotfi Bennani, Chairman and CEO of "Innovatel Engineering" and founder of the congress, stressed that this event represents an opportunity to bring together all the key players in Arab and African cities in the field of smart and sustainable urban technologies, in order to learn about technological innovations intended for smart regions and cities.
It is also a favourable space to forge links between project leaders, design offices, political leaders, architects, urban planners and solution developers, with the aim of creating new synergies capable of stimulating major projects in Morocco, particularly in the context of preparations for the 2030 World Cup, he explained.
For her part, Fatna El Khiel, President of the Moroccan office of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa, stressed that the digital transformation of local authorities appears as one of the most powerful levers to improve the quality of public services and strengthen transparency, noting that this transformation makes it possible to stimulate citizen participation and promote fairer decision-making, within the framework of an approach that is both social and territorial.
For his part, Abdelhadi Laghrari, member of the AMPCC, welcomed the choice of the theme of this congress, given the developments and the digital revolution that the world is experiencing, which encourage all the actors concerned to mobilise more to ensure a healthy transition from traditional management to digital management.
In this context, he called for encouraging the cooperation of all actors in the private and public sectors, noting that the construction of smart cities, capable of responding to the challenges of the present, constitutes a priority to guarantee a balance between technology, transparency and citizen participation, with a view to achieving social and territorial justice.
The Arab-African Pedagogical Congress on Smart Cities is intended to be a true platform for reflection and proposal of concrete and innovative solutions to the major challenges of smart cities, particularly in terms of governance, domestic tourism, sustainable development, energy transition, digital transformation, security, urban mobility and the continuity of public services.
