The Marrakech Heritage Days will be organised from 22 to 25 May in the Ochre City, under the theme "Marrakech through water and gardens".
Initiated by the Turāth Association for the safeguarding and promotion of tangible and intangible heritage, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the Wilaya of Marrakech-Safi, the Marrakech-Safi region, the Commune of Marrakech, the Jardin Majorelle Foundation and the Regional Tourism Council (CRT), this event aims to offer a fun and educational cultural experience to better understand the hidden treasures and fascinating stories that have shaped the Ochre City over the centuries, a press release from the organisers indicates.
These days offer an opportunity to discover the cultural, architectural and natural riches of the Ochre City with the support of more than 200 volunteer guides trained by architects, historians and heritage specialists, the statement highlights, noting that the organisers of this cultural event invite heritage enthusiasts as well as novices to travel through time and space via guided tours.
These days also offer an opportunity to raise awareness among the inhabitants of Marrakech, particularly the youth, but also the increasingly numerous tourists, about the preservation of tangible and intangible heritage.
For this edition, the organisers have put together a rich programme including screenings, photographic exhibitions by artists Marco Guerra, Benoît Maillard, Olivier Monge and Faten Safieddine, and a presentation of urban flora in partnership with the regional section of the Mohammed VI National Centre for the Disabled.
On the menu for this event are also school visits to iconic sites of the Ochre City, workshops for children, conferences on "Vernacular architecture and the Moroccan Pavilion at the Venice Biennale" and "Marrakech, through water and gardens", in addition to the book signing of "The Enigma of the Almoravid Qobba of Marrakech" by the architect and community activist Soad Belkeziz.
During these days, the organisers will also launch the "Water Circuit".
