Six British passengers were organising a stag party on board the plane. Among them, two had particularly inappropriate behaviour; they were vaping while attacking crew members according to a witness cited by the local press. They were also using foul language despite the presence of others.
The same source adds that, after the group had been warned six times in a courteous and professional manner by the flight attendant, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing at Faro airport in Portugal, halfway between Newport (Wales) and Marrakech. Upon landing, the troublemakers were met by eight Portuguese police officers who escorted two of the partygoers off. The other four left the plane without incident.
The plane resumed its flight to Marrakech, according to an EasyJet spokesperson. "Our crew is trained to assess any situation and acted quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers was not compromised at any time. The safety and well-being of our passengers is always EasyJet's priority and we do not tolerate any abusive or threatening behaviour on board," the flight spokesperson specifies.
