From Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th May, Marrakech hosts the second edition of We Arty. This artistic wander, supported by 19 galleries and institutions in the city — including MACAAL, the DaDa art space, and the Montresso* Foundation — invites the public to explore the local scene through a programme of openings, performances, screenings, and meetings. This year, the festival is partnering with the Turâth association, which has been committed since 2022 to safeguarding the tangible and intangible heritage of the Ochre City. Its volunteers will guide visitors through commented routes linking historical sites and exhibition spaces.
Among the highlights of the weekend, the Khalid Fine Arts gallery will host a round table on May 2nd at 7pm on the intersections between visual arts and photography in Morocco, echoing the exhibition by Hicham Benohoud. The following day, Saturday May 3rd, photographer Yassine Sellame will give a performance at 11am at the Montresso* Foundation, as part of his exhibition Résonances Urbaines, dedicated to Moroccan skate culture. In the afternoon, the Foundation will screen the film Better by Karim Ourahou, which traces the journey of Nassim Lachhab, the first professional Moroccan and African skateboarder. On the same day, MACAAL will open its doors for free, with a guided tour scheduled at 4:30pm.
Throughout the weekend, the KE’CH collective will host Be The Souk with participatory workshops on screen printing, embroidery, and leather and brass work. As for galleries, visitors will be able to discover the works of Mustapha Hafid at Galerie 38 and those of Samy Snoussi at the Loft Art Gallery. At Dada Marrakech, the independent space Le 18 will present Port Cities, a transnational project bringing together four artists from the Maghreb and Lebanon around port imaginaries and cultural flows in the Mediterranean.
