Marrakech – The Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, held a meeting on Sunday in Marrakech with project leaders whose startups were selected under the “Morocco 200” initiative.
The startups concerned, numbering 200, benefit from participation funded by the Ministry on the occasion of the third edition of the “GITEX Africa Morocco” exhibition, organised in Marrakech from 14 to 16 April in the Red City.
During this meeting, Ms. Seghrouchni indicated that the “Morocco 200” initiative, launched by the Ministry in cooperation with the Digital Development Agency, aims to strengthen the international dimension of Moroccan startups and add dynamism to their presence on the global technological scene, adding that the selected startups benefit from 95 per cent coverage of exhibition stand costs, in order to remove financial barriers to accessing a major event such as “GITEX Africa”.
The Minister explained that each startup has a 4 square metre stand, in addition to access to pre-event preparatory training, which was designed in partnership with investors, mentors, and accelerators, with the aim of enhancing their ability to present their projects effectively, structure presentations, and better anticipate market expectations,” adding that more than 600 meetings are expected to be held between startups, investors, and partners.
She continued that the winners will also be able to participate in the “Supernova Challenge”, as the largest pitch competition for startups in the launch phase in Africa, with the receipt of a prestigious prize, noting that among the 200 selected startups, 130 are participating for the first time, two were chosen only in 2023, at least 55 startups participated in the 2024 edition, and 15 startups in the 2023 and 2024 editions.
In this context, Ms. Seghrouchni praised the presence of 34 startups founded by women on the list, highlighting that in terms of sectoral division, artificial intelligence leads the selected projects with 13 per cent, followed by logistics and mobility technology (11 per cent), educational technology and financial technology (8 per cent each), health technology (7 per cent), and agricultural technology (7 per cent).
This ceremony was also marked by the presentation of awards to members of the jury in appreciation of their valuable contribution to the startup selection process.
It is noteworthy that the third edition of the “GITEX Africa Morocco” exhibition, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aims to enhance convergence between governments, investors, businessmen, and digital pioneers.
This event, overseen by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform in partnership with the Digital Development Agency, is witnessing unprecedented turnout, as the exhibition is expected to receive more than 45,000 participants and 1,400 exhibitors from 130 countries.
