Marrakech – The Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, engaged, on Sunday in Marrakech, with project leaders whose startups were selected under the “Morocco 200” initiative.
The selected startups, numbering 200, will benefit from participation subsidised by the Ministry on the occasion of the 3rd edition of “GITEX Africa Morocco”, which will be held from 14 to 16 April in Marrakech.
Speaking during this exchange, Ms. Seghrouchni noted that the “Morocco 200” initiative, launched by her department in collaboration with the Digital Development Agency (ADD), aims to promote the internationalisation of Moroccan startups and boost their presence on the global technological scene, indicating that the selected startups will benefit from 95% coverage of stand rental costs, in order to remove financial barriers to accessing a major event such as “GITEX Africa”.
“Each startup will have a 4 m2 stand, access to pre-event bootcamps, designed in partnership with investors, mentors, and accelerators with the aim of strengthening their ability to effectively present their projects, structure pitches, and better anticipate market expectations,” she specified, noting that more than 600 B2B meetings are planned between startups, investors, and partners.
The winners will also be able to participate in the “Supernova Challenge”, the largest pitch competition for early-stage startups in Africa, with a prestigious prize at stake, she insisted, noting that out of the 200 selected startups, 130 are participating for the first time, 2 were selected only in 2023, no fewer than 55 participated in the 2024 edition, and 15 have already taken part in the 2023 and 2024 editions.
In this context, Ms. Seghrouchni welcomed the fact that 34 startups founded by women are part of the selection, specifying that from a sectoral point of view, artificial intelligence is in the lead, with 13% of selected projects, followed by Logistics and mobility (11%), EdTech and FinTech (8% each), HealthTech (7%), and AgriTech (7%).
This ceremony was also marked by the presentation of trophies to jury members in recognition of their valuable contribution to the startup selection process.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the third edition of GITEX Africa Morocco aims to foster synergies between governments, investors, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders.
Supported by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, in partnership with the ADD, this third edition will see unprecedented attendance with more than 45,000 participants and 1,400 exhibitors from 130 countries.
