Marrakech: Curtain raiser on the 18th edition of the "On Marche" International Contemporary Dance Festival

This cultural event, which continues until April 12, offers a unique meeting space for dance enthusiasts, as well as a showcase allowing the public to discover this art up close, notably through a rich and varied program, with the participation of artists from the Moroccan choreographic scene, as well as from Belgium, France, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Spain, and Lebanon.

Over the editions, this artistic rendezvous has established itself as a reference event in the field of contemporary dance, by offering a privileged platform for choreographers to showcase their creativity, while fostering the emergence of new talents.

In a statement to the MAP, the founder and artistic director of the festival, Taoufiq Izeddiou, emphasized that this artistic event now enjoys continental and international renown, thanks to the achievements accomplished over its 18 years of existence, both in terms of training and shows and programming.

"This artistic event, the only one on a national scale dedicated to contemporary dance, embodies an artistic and cultural dynamic that is rooted in the African identity where the body and movement occupy a central and symbolic place", he noted, noting that this international rendezvous also enriches the cultural diversity of the Ochre City, marked by an artistic effervescence in disciplines such as cinema, theater, visual arts, and popular arts.

For his part, the Tunisian choreographer Hafiz Dhaou highlighted, in a similar statement, the importance and scope of this event, expressing his joy at participating in it since its first editions.

"The +On Marche+ festival is a major artistic project based on the language of the body and its logic", he continued, specifying that its rich and constantly renewed programming aims to accompany the major events that Morocco will host in the coming years.

In addition to the choreographic shows scheduled in different spaces and cultural centers of the Ochre City, this edition proposes the launch of a three-year training program in partnership with the Dar Bellarj Foundation for the benefit of about thirty young people, the organization of the 3rd edition of the "Taklif" competition, as well as the 1st edition of the opera for children, which will span three years.

The programming also honors the opening to the African continent through several remarkable artistic performances, notably "Noirs" by Loulou (Spain/Ivory Coast), "Trois fois seul" by Salia Sanou (Burkina Faso), and "La danse du Bouza", choreographed by Taoufiq Izeddiou.

The curtain was raised, Monday evening in Marrakech, on the 18th edition of the "On Marche" International Contemporary Dance Festival, an artistic event that celebrates this year the themes of "youth, the public, Africa, and hope".
