Marrakech – Moroccan novelists and poets discussed the themes of solitude and freedom in writing on Sunday in Marrakech, with a particular focus on issues related to women.
During a meeting organised as part of the third edition of the African Book Festival in Marrakech under the theme "Panorama of Moroccan Literature: Free Creative Women", Moroccan writers presented a deep and varied vision of women's literary creation in Morocco, where they addressed freedom and solitude as fundamental drivers of the creative process.
In this regard, the novelist and journalist Myriam Jebbor confirmed that solitude can be a choice or a constraint for writers, but it always constitutes a space for creativity and reflection.
Jebbor believes that writers, especially female writers, find in solitude a refuge from social constraints.
For her part, the Moroccan writer and poet, Rime Battal, considered that writing is a means of liberation and self-assertion, which is often difficult to achieve in daily life, noting that solitude "is not a negative thing", because it raises questions that lead to "fruitful thinking and analysis".
As for the Moroccan writer, Fadwa Misk, she emphasised that solitude, far from being a burden, can also become a driving force for solidarity and the creation of literary communities.
The African Book Festival in Marrakech, organised by the "We Art africains" association (from 30 January to 2 February 2025), aims to celebrate African literature and culture.
This cultural event, which has become a distinctive cultural occasion, aims to contribute to the cultural and artistic influence in Africa by highlighting the richness of its literature and arts.
