The Ochre City recorded a "historic record" in 2024 with nearly 4 million visitors, affirmed the President of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Marrakech-Safi, Hamid Bentahar, on Friday.
Speaking during the meeting of the CRT Executive Committee in Marrakech, in the presence of Mr. Achraf Fayda, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Mr. Bentahar specified that more than 12 million overnight stays were recorded in the region, thus testifying to the strong attractiveness of the destination.
The average occupancy rate exceeded 72%, confirming the positive dynamic of the sector, added Mr. Bentahar, quoted in a CRT press release, noting that these "exceptional" performances reflect the joint efforts of public and private actors to promote Marrakech as a destination of choice on a global scale.
In this regard, he stressed that the Ochre City must capitalise on this strategic momentum to continue accelerating its competitiveness while being part of a sustainable development logic, reports the MAP.
"These results are a source of collective pride, but they must above all inspire us to strengthen our efforts to position Marrakech as an essential and sustainable destination, like the great global tourist capitals," he declared.
For his part, Mr. Fayda insisted on the importance of an inclusive territorial approach, taking into account the potential that abounds in the various provinces of the Marrakech-Safi region.
In this context, he reaffirmed the ONMT's commitment to supporting Marrakech in this dynamic of market diversification, stressing that this strategy is essential to consolidate gains and maintain the pace of growth.
For their part, the presidents of the professional associations of the tourism sector present at this meeting unanimously praised the efforts of the ONMT, while insisting on the importance of a proactive strategy for the development of new international markets.
They particularly emphasised the need to strengthen air links with long-haul markets such as Latin America, Asia, and Africa, as well as the intensification of promotional campaigns to attract tourists from these emerging regions.
This meeting allowed for the definition of areas of collaboration between the CRT of Marrakech-Safi, the ONMT, and professionals in the sector.
The participants thus committed to joining forces to keep Marrakech on an upward trajectory, with the goal of making 2025 an even more memorable year, the press release concludes.
