The main mission of this school is to strengthen the police training system and increase the capacity of police training structures, through basic training programmes for a portion of the new cohorts of police officer trainees, in addition to contributing to the enrichment and strengthening of continuous training programmes.
The opening of the new Marrakech school is part of the implementation of structural projects recently announced by the DGSN as part of its annual programme, relating to the rehabilitation and development of police structures, in particular the strengthening of police training infrastructure and support for regional police training hubs.
Since 2016, the DGSN has embarked on an ambitious project to develop the police training system as a key element of a comprehensive and profound reform of the security function, through the revision of the recruitment charter and training methods, in addition to the creation of new specialised schools, geographically close to the new trainees.
In line with this new strategic vision, the DGSN now has several security training schools, including the Royal Police Institute (IRP) in Kénitra, as well as other training schools for police officers in the cities of Laayoune, Oujda, Fez, Tangier, Marrakech, Bouknadel and Fouarat, on the outskirts of Kénitra, as well as the Higher Centre for Police Training in Ifrane, which will be inaugurated soon, with the ambition of becoming a centre for international and African security cooperation in the field of police training.
Inspection visit by the Director General of the DGSN and the DGST
The Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) carried out an inspection visit to the headquarters of the new Marrakech police officer training school, before its official inauguration, to learn about the final preparations and the arrangements made to welcome the first cohort of new police officer trainees.
The Director General of the DGSN visited the various facilities of the new Marrakech police officer training school, after which the Director of Human Resources provided explanations on the pedagogical training methods, police training programmes and the short, medium and long-term objectives of this new structure.
During his visit, the Director General of the DGSN and the DGST stressed the importance and necessity of developing training programmes and adapting them to the new philosophy of security action, based on service to the citizen and the improvement of security services.
He also stressed the need to give special importance and great attention to the new trainees, who are the police officers of tomorrow, ensuring that they consolidate their knowledge and adopt the culture of human rights.
It is also a matter of protecting these new trainees from any inappropriate or suspicious behaviour, so that they can optimally perform their noble duties in preserving security, protecting property and creating a climate conducive to the exercise of rights and freedoms, he added.
During this visit, the Director General of the DGSN and the DGST was accompanied by the Inspector General, the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Public Security, the Director of Information and Communication Systems, the Director of Equipment and Budget and the Prefect of Police of Marrakech, as well as by the Director of the Royal Police Institute and the newly appointed Director of the Marrakech Police Officer Training School.
A new police school with a capacity of 500 trainees
The new Marrakech police officer training school has been built on a total area of 7,826 m2, with a capacity to accommodate 500 trainees throughout the basic training period for police officers.
This new training structure has been designed to offer all the necessary accommodation facilities, teaching and training classrooms and external training spaces so that trainees can complete their training in the best possible conditions, with a view to their incorporation into service and recruitment centres.
To this end, the School has accommodation consisting of 16 units, an equipped kitchen, two separate restaurants and a set of sanitary facilities, in addition to a pedagogical pavilion housing a multi-purpose room with a capacity of 100 people, 10 classrooms, a computer room and a room for videoconferencing.
This structure is also equipped with a clinic offering first and second-level medical consultations, an administrative space with 19 offices, a meeting room, a prayer room, a courtyard for the national flag-raising ceremony, as well as multiple courses for various paramilitary and sports training.
The DGSN aspires for the Marrakech Police Officer Training School to contribute to strengthening specialisation in the field of security training, bringing training centres closer to trainees and creating the right conditions to develop the training system for new officers joining the ranks of National Security, whose mission is to preserve the security of the homeland and protect citizens and their property.
