The 1st edition of the Cinema and History Festival will take place from 23 to 27 January in Marrakech under the theme "Cinema and Memory".
Organised by the Cinema and History Association, this artistic event aims to deepen the debate on the challenges of Moroccan identity, the Moroccan historical anchorage and its deeply rooted traditions, and the cinematographic treatment of these themes.
This festival also aims to shed light on the cinematographic approach to the theme of resistance in Moroccan memory, as well as the impact of historical films on the collective consciousness of Moroccans, indicates a press release from the organisers, stressing that this event also seeks to strengthen the link between the Moroccan spectator and their recent and distant past, regarding the roles played by Moroccans in the resistance in all its forms.
The programme for this edition includes the screening of the films "55 Fez Summer" by director Abdelhaï Laraki and "Sika" by Rabii El Jawhari, as well as educational short films for students from schools.
On the menu for this festival are also workshops in photography, directing, acting, and scriptwriting, a national symposium on the theme "Cinema of memory: the Moroccan experience, reality and challenges", an open meeting with the Moroccan actor Hicham Bahloul on "acting and memory", in addition to a tribute to the Moroccan director Saâd Chraïbi.
