This tragic novel tells the story of a shy young boy, a courageous mother who manages the household alone after being abandoned by her husband, and an outcast older brother, who together form the main characters of this work, which takes place in the "sunless alleys" of Marrakech.
Mahi Binebine said, in a statement to the Maghreb Arabe Presse (MAP), that "this novel is a tribute to my mother, who fought hard to raise her seven children and make them successful and well-integrated individuals in their society".
He added that the novel "La Nuit Nous Emportera" is the story of a courageous mother who found herself with seven children, but knew how to face the miseries of daily life without weakening and manage the household alone".
He continued, "This mother showed us the way and gave us the example so that we would not give up and continue to believe in our dreams".
"La Nuit Nous Emportera" is originally an autobiographical novel in which the narrator "flees from this bitter reality to invent characters that resemble real people".
It should be noted that Mahi Binebine, born in Marrakech, has published many literary works that have been translated into about fifteen languages, and he has received many awards in recognition of his distinguished literary career, including the Mediterranean Prize for his novel "Le Sommeil de l'esclave", and the Arab Novel Prize for his novel "Les Étoiles de Sidi Moumen".
