On the sidelines of the 21st edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, the Festival Foundation is committed to the visually impaired and the populations of the Al Haouz and Martil regions.
Faithful to its social and medical commitment, the Marrakech Film Festival Foundation, placed under the effective presidency of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, organised a new campaign to fight blindness from 2 to 6 December 2024 in Tahannaout, indicates a press release from the Foundation on Monday.
Organised on the sidelines of the 21st edition of the Festival and in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Hassan II Foundation for Ophthalmology, this new campaign mainly targeted the disaster-stricken populations of the Al Haouz region who were able to benefit from 4,123 medical consultations and 406 surgical operations provided on-site by the medical teams mobilised for this purpose.
This solidarity campaign was accompanied by the distribution of food baskets and prescription glasses. The beneficiaries also received visits from several Moroccan and international film professionals, who wished to express their mobilisation and solidarity with the victims.
Daily ophthalmological-paediatric consultations also benefited children in Quranic schools and orphanages in the region as well as children with reduced mobility, by offering them adapted medical and optical treatment.
This large-scale campaign was deployed in three phases, all provided by the medical team of the Hassan II Foundation for Ophthalmology: starting with the recruitment of beneficiaries in all the disaster-stricken Douars, the performance of medical and surgical procedures at the Mohammed VI Hospital in Tahannaout, and finishing with the post-operative follow-up phase.
Last October, the Marrakech Film Festival Foundation had organised a similar campaign in Martil where 251 surgical procedures and 3,197 specialised consultations benefited local populations.
To date, the Foundation has organised 26 campaigns to fight blindness for the benefit of patients in different regions of Morocco, namely: Marrakech (2009 and 2010), Marrakech, Rabat, Tiflet (2011), Marrakech, Tata, Guelmim (2012), Demnate and Tahannaout (2013), Dakhla and Tahannaout (2014), Berkane and Khénifra (2015), Laâyoune and Tamellalt (2016), Tiznit, M’diq, Errachidia and Sefrou (2017), Taza, Azilal and Tahannaout (2018), Errachidia and Marrakech (2019), Martil and Tahannaout (2024).
