In the world top six

The Marrakech International Marathon (MIM) is among the six best and largest races in the world until May 31, according to the latest ranking established by the IAAF and AIMS during this first half of the season.
In the world top six

This choice place is obtained thanks to the time of the Kenyan Stephan Tum who achieved a time of 2:06:35 this season. Only five other marathons have done better than this performance. These are Dubai, Hamburg, Paris, Rotterdam, and London. The new record achieved by Tum grants the MIM the 13th world performance and the first performance at the African level, according to the rankings established by the IAAF and AIMS. Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 24th edition of the Marrakech International Marathon, which took place as an event approved by the IAAF, recorded a good number of records both in terms of athlete participation and in terms of performances achieved. In addition, it was selected by the FRMA as a Moroccan championship event at the national level. Indeed, this edition saw the participation of more than 7,000 athletes, including 70 classified as Top runners and 550 athletes from clubs affiliated with the FRMA. In the flagship men's race, the Kenyan Stephan Tum repeated his feat by winning this event for the 2nd consecutive year, pulverizing at the same time the event record in 2h06mn35s ahead of the Ethiopian Girma Gezahagn who in 2h07mn41s ran below the record established by Abdelkader El Mouaziz in 2h08mn15s since 1999. The first Moroccan, Ait Ali Youssef, arrived in 8th place in 2h16mn43s and was crowned champion of Morocco ahead of Lahcen Mokraji who came in 9th in 2h18mn37s. In the women's half-marathon race, the event record was broken by the Ethiopian Waganesh Mekasha who finished in 1h08mn48s ahead of the Moroccan Malika Assahssah (1h10mn11s). On the other hand, the men's half-marathon was won by the Moroccan El Hassan El Abbassi who in 1h01mn09s won ahead of the Kenyan Rotich Luka (1h01mn10s) and the Ethiopian Abebe Belay (1h01mn12s), which shows the fierce struggle between these three athletes.
