Street arts in the spotlight in Marrakech and the province of Al Haouz

Street arts are in the spotlight on the occasion of the 7th International Artistic Meetings in Public Spaces, "Awaln’Art 2013", which will take place from 11 to 14 April in Marrakech and the province of Al Haouz.

During this cultural and artistic event, visual artists, storytellers, set designers, acrobats, musicians, clowns, dancers, and actors will meet in the public squares of the Ochre City. But also in Tahanaoute, Aghmat, Aït Ourir, Marrakech, and for the first time in Amizmiz, "to build a new and shared aesthetic of street arts", emphasises the Collectif Eclats de lune, organiser of this event.

On this occasion, participatory residencies and site-specific creations will dress the squares with lights and thus offer "a new setting for international shows and the new Moroccan scene of arts in public spaces".

It must be said that this edition, organised with the support of the Province of Al Haouz, the urban commune of Marrakech, the Regional Council of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, and the Ministry of Culture, includes several activities that will make the various sites of this event vibrate.

Indeed, for four days, the public will be invited to discover the new Moroccan scene, with shows by the Collectif Éclats de lune, the Shems’y National Circus School, and the Nomadic Theatre. Music lovers will also be able to dance during the contemporary and popular musical meetings planned as part of this event, just as they will be able to attend and appreciate various European shows.

This event, which intends to give full meaning to its space of creation, the "Factory of Arts in Public Spaces", and to become a workshop and laboratory for fairground arts, also plans "a Dutch mobile sewing workshop, a Ferris wheel and a clown made in France, a Spanish urban surprise, a flying trapeze", the organisers point out in a presentation note. They add that this fairground anthology will be marked by "firework installations by the Carabosse Company (which) will illuminate one of the most beautiful places of our heritage, the Badii Palace".

It should be noted that on the sidelines of this event, a seminar will be organised on 11 and 12 April in Tahanaoute under the theme "Culture, a challenge for economic and territorial development". This meeting is co-organised by the Ministry of Culture, the Marrakech Regional Directorate, and the French Embassy.

The 7th International Artistic Meetings in Public Spaces also benefit from the support of the Marrakech Regional Directorate, the Institut français Paris, the Instituts français of Morocco, the Institut français of Marrakech, the Embassies of France, Spain, and Holland, the Cervantes Institute, the Marrakech Festival Foundation, and Oasiria.

Finally, the organisers announce many surprises throughout this great festival of street arts.
