Release of twenty-seven detainees in Khouribga

Release of twenty-seven detainees in Khouribga

The Khouribga Court of Appeal has finally released twenty-seven of the twenty-nine young detainees, sons of OCP Group retirees, after a year of pre-trial detention. This release is subject to a sentence of six months to one year of imprisonment, following the tragic events of 5 June 2012.

Nevertheless, one of the other two detainees will be released next August, while the second will remain in prison following a complaint filed by his ex-wife for non-payment of alimony.

It should be recalled that the events date back to 5 June 2012, during a sit-in by the sons of retirees in front of the OCP administration. A sit-in that turned into a direct confrontation with law enforcement. These 29 young people were apprehended and presented to the public prosecutor, who decided to prosecute them for several serious offences, including the formation of a criminal gang, arson, and destruction of public property.

It should be noted that the families of the detainees had organised several protest sit-ins in front of the Khouribga Court of Appeal, supported by political, trade union, and associative organisations demanding the release of their children.
