The first campaign to fight cybercrime in Morocco was launched on Tuesday in Kenitra to raise awareness among all public and private actors about the dangers and threats of this phenomenon and the need to take all security measures to protect information and communication systems.
This campaign, conducted from 6 May to 25 June by the Moroccan Centre for Polytechnic Research and Innovation (CMRPI) under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, Investment and Digital Economy, in partnership with the Ibn Tofail University of Kenitra, the International Association for the Fight against Cybercrime, and other national partners, includes a series of technical and legal training sessions, awareness seminars in various Moroccan cities, and an international symposium on cybercrime, scheduled for 24 and 25 June at the National School of Applied Sciences of Kenitra (ENSAK). The campaign, conducted under the slogan 'Together against cybercrime', is particularly aimed at public, semi-public, banking, and university institutions as well as businesses, and will be followed, over the next four years, by other broader editions targeting other categories of internet users. The organisers believe that cybercrime has currently become a 'major concern for the public and private sector' in Morocco, hence this awareness campaign on the dangers and threats of this type of crime, which has no borders, and the necessary measures to take to protect against it. This can only be done, they explain, by adopting a security strategy for information and communication systems that meets international standards and is based on the necessary hardware and software equipment.
During the launch ceremony of this campaign, the president of the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection, Said Ihrai, indicated that the commission made the security of information systems and personal data processing one of the pillars of personal data protection. Moreover, he said, on the authorisation request that those responsible for processing this data are required to fill out and submit to the commission, there is an entire chapter concerning the security measures that the commission's technicians verify before the collection and processing of data. The commission, he added, believes that in the implementation of the law and provisions on the protection of this data, the sector of security and protection of this data is 'extremely important'. Cybercrime, indicated for his part the president of the CMRPI, Youssef Bentaleb, is not only a threat to personal data but also constitutes a real danger for a country's economic system. For the president of the Moroccan Association for Digital Trust, Anas Abou el Kalam, zero risk does not exist. Security, he insisted, must be taken into account from the design phase of the company and be a continuous and integrated process in its management system.
