The Court of First Instance in Kenitra sentenced a blogger on Tuesday, who was prosecuted for insulting a civil servant in the exercise of his duties, to three months in prison, of which only the period spent in pre-trial detention is enforceable, it was learned on Wednesday from a judicial source.
The blogger Jawad Guilii, administrator of the "kénitrapress" site, who was released on Tuesday after the sentence was pronounced, was also fined 500 dirhams.
The court, it is recalled, had refused twice, during the first hearing on 9 April and the second on the 16th of the same month, the defence's request for provisional release for its client.
Mr Guilii was supported by four lawyers and human rights organisations.
